A complete guide for integrating Anthropic Claude Code CLI with governed transactional email via MCP, including CI/CD incident alerts, token-scoped keys, and spend guardrails.

## 1. The rise of terminal-based coding agents and headless alerts

Anthropic’s Claude Code CLI represents a massive leap forward for developer workflows. Instead of manually copying diffs into chat interfaces, Claude Code executes commands, edits files, and runs test suites directly inside your terminal or CI/CD container.

However, when running long tasks — such as end-to-end regression suites, database migrations, or scheduled code refactors — developers cannot sit staring at terminal output. Claude Code needs a governed mechanism to alert engineers when runs complete or when fatal errors occur.

Traditional cloud email providers require writing custom API wrapper scripts and storing raw, unscoped root credentials in environment variables. By integrating SadaSend via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), Claude Code receives safe, governed email capabilities with domain allowlists and spend guardrails built in.

| Integration Mechanism | Raw Cloud SMTP / REST | SadaSend MCP Server |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Configuration Effort | Custom scripts & environment secrets | 1-command setup via claude mcp add |
| Key Scope & Permissions | Unscoped root API keys (full platform access) | Token-scoped keys with outbound-only permissions |
| Safety Guardrails | None (infinite loops risk $5,000 bills) | SpendGuard $0 floor and hourly velocity circuit breakers |
| Recipient Protection | Can email any external address | Domain allowlists restrict sends to team mailboxes |

## 2. Connecting Claude Code to the SadaSend MCP Server in 1 command

Claude Code natively supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing you to attach external tool servers without modifying any codebase. You can register SadaSend globally or on a per-project basis with a single terminal command:

```bash
# Add SadaSend MCP server to Claude Code in 1 command
claude mcp add sadasend -- bunx -y @sadasend/mcp
# Or set your scoped API key directly in environment
claude mcp add sadasend \
  -e SADASEND_API_KEY="sada_live_agent_your_scoped_key" \
  -- bunx -y @sadasend/mcp
```

## 3. Configuring token-scoped keys and recipient domain allowlists

When granting email dispatch capabilities to autonomous terminal agents, security must be enforced by design. A common failure mode in autonomous coding is an agent entering a loop and repeatedly sending emails to external clients.

SadaSend resolves this with token-scoped API keys and recipient domain allowlists. In your SadaSend dashboard, mint an API key dedicated to Claude Code and restrict its permissions:

1. Enable Send Transactional Email only (disabling key management and domain settings).

2. Add an explicit Recipient Domain Allowlist (e.g. *@yourcompany.com or oncall@example.com). Any message addressed outside approved domains triggers an immediate RecipientNotAllowlistedError (#recipient_not_allowlisted) before queue insertion.

3. Configure SpendGuard: Set a strict daily spending cap of $5.00 with a mathematical $0 overage floor.

## 4. Automating CI/CD test failure alerts with Claude Code

With the SadaSend MCP server connected, you can prompt Claude Code naturally in terminal scripts or GitHub Actions workflows. Here is an example of running a test suite and dispatching an incident alert on failure:

```bash
# Autonomous test execution with governed email alert
claude "Run bun test. If any test fails, inspect the failure trace and send an incident report to dev-ops@example.com with the failed test names and error logs."
```

## 5. Preventing runaway agent loops with SpendGuard and hourly velocity ceilings

Autonomous agents debugging code in recursive loops present unique financial and deliverability risks. If a test script re-triggers on every failure, an unconstrained email API can dispatch thousands of repetitive messages in minutes.

SadaSend provides token-bucket loop breakers and hourly velocity circuit breakers. If Claude Code attempts to dispatch more than your configured hourly limit (e.g. 50 emails/hour), SadaSend halts sending, marks the key state, and prevents financial loss or inbox reputation damage.
